Neck Pain Treatment in Mooresville, NC

Dr. John Ashcraft, DC, has treated many patients in Mooresville who struggle with neck pain that affects daily movement, work, and sleep. Neck pain often develops gradually due to posture strain, repetitive movements, or spinal tension rather than a single injury.

At ChiroLife Wellness Center, we focus on identifying the cause of neck pain, not just reducing discomfort. Our approach is gentle and precise, designed to restore proper motion, reduce tension, and support long-term neck health.

The first step is a consultation to understand your symptoms and determine the right treatment path. Call us at (704) 218-9161 to discuss your concerns.

What Are the Causes of Neck Pain?

Neck pain comes from physical, chemical, and emotional stress overwhelming the nervous system.

Physical stress: It can include micro stresses, repetitive movements, inactivity, a sedentary lifestyle, postural stress, or a major trauma such as a car accident or a fall.

Chemical stress: This includes any non-nutrient substance that goes into or onto your body that can be neurotoxic and affect the nerves beneath the surface.

Emotional stress: It is one of the biggest contributors we see in practice today. Excessive screen use leads to forward-head posture and rounded shoulders over time.

We are now seeing degenerative changes in children as young as 9 to 12 years old as a result of too much time on phones and computers, combined with a lack of activity.

How Do We Diagnose the Root Cause of Neck Pain?

The diagnostic process for neck pain follows the same steps as back pain.

Hands-on physical exam: Dr. Ashcraft palpates the soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsule, and fascia, looking for changes in tone, texture, temperature, and tension. Joint mobility is assessed to identify whether a joint is normal, hypomobile (locked up), or hypermobile (compensating for something else). We never do adjustments to hypermobile joints.

SEMG and thermal scanning: Because the neck connects directly to the brain, the nerve scan findings here carry particular weight. The SEMG checks whether the muscles on each side of the neck are firing in balance. The thermal scan checks the autonomic nerve system, which controls organs, glands, and blood vessels. Problems in the neck can show up as imbalances that the patient has no awareness of.

Digital X-rays: X-rays show how long the wear and tear has been present and help identify the stage of degeneration.

Orthopedic and neurological testing is added as needed if further evaluation is required.

Neck Pain Treatment Plan

Treatment starts with targeted soft tissue work on specific tight or painful areas, such as muscle spasms or trigger points, when needed, before the adjustment.

Adjustments begin gently to see what the patient can tolerate. We use a drop table or an instrument adjusting tool to start. Most patients can tolerate manual manipulation right away.

Active care is three days a week, working to get the process moving as quickly as possible.

We also provide home care instructions, including:

  • Sleeping posture and positioning
  • Activities or habits at home that may be contributing to the condition
  • Stretching to keep joints moving between visits

Neck Pain Patient Case Study

Severe Neck and Arm Pain to Full Recovery

Patient Information: A man called the front desk in severe pain. He was agitated and difficult to deal with on the phone. We evaluated him on the same day. He was seen multiple times over the course of that first week.

Symptoms: Severe neck pain with nerve pain shooting down the arm. He described it as suicide pain. He had limited ability to function and had not been caring for himself in the days leading up to his first visit.

Diagnosis: The neck was severely locked up with significant nerve impingement, causing radiating arm pain.

Treatments: Dr. Ashcraft adjusted him multiple times across the first several days, working to address the nerve impingement in the neck and arm. He was seen daily at the start of that first week.

Outcome: By day five or six, the nerve pain in his neck and arm had cleared significantly. He came back that day clean, well-dressed, and brought food for the staff. The patient shared that the improvement in his pain had a major impact on his well-being during a very difficult time. He continued through the full care process at our clinic.

Not one to write reviews but the doctors here have been such a blessing! I’m pregnant with my first child and have scoliosis. I’ve been experiencing sciatic pain for years and since going to Chirolife regularly, I’ve noticed a huge difference in how little I experience it now, even with a growing tummy.

I’ve been to several chiropractors across different states over 10 years, and Dr. A is, without question, the most knowledgeable and effective chiropractor I’ve worked with. The entire staff at Chirolife Wellness is equally exceptional - professional, welcoming, and genuinely invested in your well-being. Even though I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about the benefits of chiropractic care, Chirolife Wellness exceeded my expectations with how holistic and comprehensive their approach is. The team takes the time to thoroughly explain your individualized treatment plan and strategies to improve your health (beyond the standard stretching/exercise

Neck Pain Patient FAQs

Is chiropractic care safe for neck pain?
Yes. Every treatment decision is based on what comes out of the exam, the nerve scans, and the X-rays. We do not begin treatment without first understanding what is going on in your specific condition.

Can chiropractic care help chronic neck pain?
Yes. Chronic neck pain is often a sign that the condition has been building under the surface for a long time. Chiropractic care works to find the root cause neurologically and correct it, rather than just managing the symptoms.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of visits depends on the severity and duration of your condition. Your care plan is explained after your evaluation, so you know what to expect.

Does neck pain treatment hurt?
No. Chiropractic care is designed to be comfortable and adapted to your tolerance. Treatment starts gently to see what your neck can tolerate. Some patients are comfortable with manual adjustments right away. Others do better starting with a drop table or an instrument adjusting tool.

Will insurance cover neck pain treatment?
Coverage varies by plan. Our team can help verify benefits and explain your options.

When should you seek professional care for neck pain?
If your neck pain has been present for more than a few days, is limiting your movement, or is spreading into your shoulders or arms, it is worth getting evaluated. Some patients with neck-related nerve irritation may also report symptoms such as headaches, poor sleep, dizziness, or ringing in the ears. A proper evaluation helps determine whether the neck may be contributing.

What are the long-term effects of ignoring neck pain treatment?
The closer the issue is to the brain, the more things that can be affected. The brain sends signals through the neck to tell the body how to function and heal. A subluxation in the neck is a neurological roadblock in that system.
Conditions that often come from unresolved neck issues include: sleeplessness, fatigue, difficulty with focus and concentration, brain fog, anxiety, irritability, depression, high blood pressure, sinus and allergy problems, vertigo, and ringing in the ears. Most people do not connect these symptoms to their neck, but they all come from the neural structures in that region.
