Chiropractic Care in Mooresville, NC

Chiropractic care is an effective treatment for musculoskeletal issues, with over 35 million Americans visiting chiropractors annually. It may help patients with spine, joint, and nerve-related concerns by improving movement and supporting better function.

At ChiroLife Wellness Center, we believe in a holistic approach to health that helps you achieve long-term wellness. Care is led by our experienced chiropractor, Dr. John Ashcraft, DC, who brings 20 years of hands-on clinical experience with a strong focus on nervous system function.

What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care focuses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those related to the spine, joints, and nerves. Chiropractors use hands-on techniques, including spinal adjustments, to correct misalignments, improve mobility, and alleviate pain.

Our body is designed to heal and work at its best, and chiropractic care helps it do exactly that. It is a medication-free, non-invasive treatment option that works in tandem with your body’s natural healing processes.

What to Expect During Your First Chiropractic Visit

At ChiroLife Wellness Center, we process new patients as quickly as possible. Once you check in, a chiropractic assistant will give you a quick office tour and bring you into an exam room to begin the doctor’s consultation.

Dr. Ashcraft begins by assessing your range of motion to pinpoint where the pain is coming from, then examines the soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments, for any irregularities.

X-rays or MRIs may be ordered to rule out fractures or disc involvement and to determine the stage of spinal degeneration. In many cases, these issues develop gradually over time without causing noticeable symptoms.

Nerve tests and thermal scanning are also included when needed, based on your specific condition.

Every 30 days or every 12 visits, Dr. Ashcraft does a checkpoint where we re-perform your exam and nerve scans to make sure we are hitting our goals. Once you complete active care, we move you into wellness and maintenance.

What Conditions Can Chiropractic Care Help Treat?

At ChiroLife Wellness Center, we see patients for a wide range of conditions. These include:

Back pain, neck pain, headaches, and migraines. We also treat sciatica, herniated discs, and scoliosis. We work with a lot of athletes for hip issues, runner’s knee, IT band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, flat feet, high arches, shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel, and wrist issues.

Beyond pain-related conditions, we also ask patients about sleeplessness, fatigue, difficulty with focus and concentration, brain fog, anxiety, irritability, depression, high blood pressure, sinus and allergy concerns, vertigo, and ringing in the ears. All of that can come from the neural (nerve) structures in the neck region.

Every day we see at least a dozen children. We treat babies for torticollis, colic, and ear infections. We also see a lot of pregnant patients and have treated many women through multiple pregnancies.

Common Chiropractic Techniques

Dr. John Ashcraft uses a blend of techniques depending on what is going to be most effective for each patient.

  1. Doctor begins with spot soft tissue work on trigger points and spasms when needed, prior to the adjustment. From there, we use a combination of a handheld instrument adjusting tool, drop table technique, and manual adjustments depending on what each patient needs.
  2. For migraine patients, Dr. Ashcraft uses a specific upper cervical manipulation technique called as neurosystemic modulation. Specific soft tissue techniques may also be used to the suboccipital muscles in the upper neck region.
  3. In addition, at ChiroLife Wellness Center, we use the Vielight Alpha Neuro Stimulator. This device uses red light therapy to reduce nerve swelling in the brain and surrounding tissues.
  4. For children, spinal adjustments are much lighter than they would be for an adult. On an infant, the pressure used is about the same as you would use to check the ripeness of an avocado.
  5. Soft wave therapy is also used in our clinic. It works by activating your body’s own stem cells to repair and regenerate damaged tissue, without the need for stem cell injections.

Case Study 1: Management of Severe Neck and Arm Pain

Patient Information: A man called the front desk in severe pain. He was agitated and difficult to deal with on the phone. We evaluated him on the same day. He was seen multiple times over the course of that first week.

Symptoms: Severe neck pain with nerve pain shooting down the arm. He described it as suicide pain. He had limited ability to function and had not been caring for himself in the days leading up to his first visit.

Diagnosis: The neck was severely locked up with significant nerve impingement, causing radiating arm pain.

Treatments: Dr. Ashcraft adjusted him multiple times across the first several days, working to address the nerve impingement in the neck and arm. He was seen daily at the start of that first week.

Outcome: By day five or six, the nerve pain in his neck and arm had cleared significantly. He came back that day clean, well-dressed, and brought food for the staff. The patient shared that having the nerve pain addressed that week had a major positive impact on his well-being during a very difficult time. He continued through the full care process at our clinic.

Case Study 2: Chronic Migraine Recovery Through Chiropractic Care

Patient Information: A woman came in after suffering from migraines for 35 years. She had tried every available treatment with no results. She had seen multiple chiropractors, physical therapists, and neurologists. She had been to the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic. She had tried Botox injections to the head and neck and had gone through every available medication. Nothing had worked.

Symptoms: Chronic migraines spanning 35 years. Having more than four migraine-free days in a month was considered a good month. She had essentially no quality of life for 35 years as a result of the condition. She had an active migraine during her first visit to the clinic.

Diagnosis: Nerve imbalance and dysfunction in the upper neck region, specifically involving the structures at the occiput, Atlas, and C2, along with the surrounding soft tissues.

Treatments: Dr. Ashcraft performed his proprietary treatment on her during the first visit while her husband watched. This included Neuro Systemic Modulation, Myotonal Flow Release, and the VieLight Alpha Neuro Stimulator. She started active care immediately following the initial visit.

Outcome: During the first treatment, her migraine reduced from a 9/10 pain to 2/10 in about four minutes. A couple of months into care, she had a 31-day streak with no migraines. She had only about three or four migraines total since starting care, and they were getting less and less frequent. She said her kids had never known her migraine-free in their whole lives and were happy to have gotten their mother back.

Case Study 3: Pediatric Scoliosis Stabilized Without Surgery

Patient Information: A young boy, almost six years old, was born with a hemi-vertebra in his mid-back. This created a scoliosis of about 54 degrees. Dr. Ashcraft had been treating him since shortly after birth.

Symptoms: A 54-degree spinal curvature in the mid-back caused by a hemi-vertebra. No functional limitations or nerve symptoms were present despite the severity of the curve.

Diagnosis: A hemi-vertebra in the mid-back is causing a fixed structural scoliosis of 54 degrees. The curvature cannot be corrected because the abnormal vertebra is a permanent structural issue.

Treatments: Consistent chiropractic care from shortly after birth, focused on maintaining neurological function and preventing the curvature from progressing as the child grows.

Outcome: Several years ago, a pediatric neurosurgeon recommended removing the hemi-vertebra surgically. The mother declined and continued with chiropractic care. The scoliosis has not progressed at all. The boy continues to grow normally and functions well. At a recent follow-up, the neurosurgeon confirmed that surgery is no longer being considered as long as his function remains stable.

Most people think the point of chiropractic is to realign the spine. That is not what we are trying to do. At ChiroLife Wellness Center, we care about neurological function.

If we can restore nerve function and the muscles are working with balance and equilibrium on the skeleton, then yes, spinal alignment will follow. But you are also going to get a hundred other results out of it.
